By kayak
Explore a quieter corner of Norway from a different perspective.
No two days on the water are ever the same, and at Way North our guided kayak trips embrace that.
The coastline around western Vesterålen offers countless opportunities for exploration, and a sea kayak lets us experience it from a completely different perspective. It encourages us to work the conditions and nature, and feel connected to the place around us.
A day on the water might see us weaving between sheltered islands, following exposed headlands and dramatic cliffs, paddling beneath the midnight sun, or quietly exploring remote fjords. We may encounter white-tailed eagles, seals or otters, stop for lunch and coffee on a deserted white-sand beach, learn new paddling skills, or simply drift for a while and enjoy the silence.
If we're lucky, we might even experience many of those moments on the same journey.
Whatever the day brings, the conditions and the people joining will have the biggest influence on where we go and what we do. Rather than following a fixed itinerary, every trip is shaped around the weather, the sea, your experience and what you would like to get from the day. That flexibility is one of the things that makes every journey unique.
Choosing your way
Every journey is different, and choosing between a half-day, full-day or multi-day is about the kind of day you'd like to have, not your ability or experience.
Some first-time paddlers are happy spending an entire day on the water, while some experienced kayakers simply want a relaxed few hours exploring the coastline. If you're unsure which would suit you best, we'll decide together.
If you'd like to develop your paddling skills, every trip can include as much or as little coaching as you would like. Whether you're taking your first strokes or refining more advanced techniques, the day can be shaped around your goals as well as the journey.
Half-day
Sometimes a few hours is all you need to experience just how special travelling by kayak can be.
These trips usually begin from our base at Ringstad, where a beautiful coastline of sheltered islands and open sea offers plenty of opportunities for exploration. Whether you'd like a relaxed paddle,to improve your paddling skills, or simply see the local area from a different perspective, there's still plenty of time to enjoy the varied landscapes and seascapes.

Full-day
A full day gives us something valuable: freedom.
Rather than beginning from one fixed location, we can choose where to launch based on the weather, wind, tides and the kind of experience you're hoping for. That flexibility allows us to explore much more of western Vesterålen and makes every journey unique.
It also gives us the opportunity to explore more deeply. We might paddle further along an exposed coastline, venture into a remote fjord, spend longer exploring a group of islands, or land somewhere that simply deserves more time. There's no need to rush from one place to the next—we have the freedom to let the day unfold naturally.

Multi-day
Multi-day journeys are less about covering distance and more about settling into a different rhythm.
With no need to return at the end of the day, we have the freedom to let the landscape guide us. We can spend several days exploring remote coastlines, camp in beautiful places, cook together, watch the light change, and wake up ready to continue the journey.
It's often these simple moments between the paddling—sharing breakfast on a quiet beach, watching sea eagles overhead or sitting around a camp stove—that stay with us.
