Experience western Vesterålen one step at a time

There is something different round every corner, and moving through the landscape under our own power gives us time to notice everything, from huge vistas to the tiny details

The landscapes of western Vesterålen are incredibly varied, from white-sand beaches and quiet coastal paths to rugged mountains, open ridgelines and hidden valleys. Exploring on foot allows us to experience them in a way that's simply not possible from the road.

A day outside might see us climbing towards a panoramic summit, following historic paths, wandering through birch woodland, crossing open moorland, sitting round a fire watching northern lights or exploring a remote coastline. Along the way we might encounter wildlife, discover places few people visit, pause for coffee with a view, cook lunch over an open fire, find berries to snack on, or simply enjoy the satisfaction of wandering in silence.

If we're lucky, we might experience many of those moments on the same journey.

Whatever the day brings, the conditions and the people joining us will have the biggest influence on where we go and what we do. Every journey is shaped around the weather, the landscape, your experience and what you'd like to get from the day. We may end up standing on a summit, wandering a quiet coastline or changing our plans completely because something else simply feels like the better choice. That flexibility is one of the things that makes every walk unique.

Choosing your way

Every journey is different, and choosing between a half-day, full-day or multi-day is about the kind of day you'd like to have, not your ability or experience.

Some people are happy with a few hours on a local trail, while others are looking for a full day in the mountains or several days exploring more remote landscapes. If you're unsure which would suit you best, we'll decide together.

Whether you'd like to challenge yourself on a demanding mountain hike, wander a quiet coastline, enjoy the peace of sleeping birch forests on snowshoes, spend time looking for wildlife or simply enjoy being outdoors, every journey can be shaped around what you'd like to get from the day.

Half-day

Sometimes a few hours is all you need to experience places best reached on foot.

These journeys usually begin close to our base at Ringstad, where quiet coastal paths, rolling hills and nearby summits offer plenty of opportunities for exploration. Whether you'd like a relaxed walk, find dark places to watch the Aurora, a more challenging hike or simply spend quality time outdoors, there's still plenty of time to enjoy the incredible variety western Vesterålen has to offer.

Full-day

A full day gives us something valuable: freedom.

We can choose where to walk based on the weather, the conditions and the kind of experience you're hoping for. That flexibility allows us to explore much more of western Vesterålen and makes every journey unique.

It also gives us the opportunity to explore more deeply. We might spend the day on a mountain ridge, reaching higher or more remote summits, following a less visited stretch of coastline, wandering through a hidden valley or simply taking more time to appreciate the places we discover along the way. There's no need to rush. We have the freedom to follow our curiosity and let the day unfold naturally.

Multi-day

Multi-day journeys aren't always about covering more distance. They're about settling into a different rhythm.

With no need to return at the end of the day, we have the freedom to let the landscape guide us. We can spend several days exploring remote mountains and coastlines, camp in beautiful places, cook together over an open fire, watch the light change and wake up ready for another day outside.

It's often these moments between the walking—sharing breakfast with a view, spotting wildlife, swimming in a mountain lake or sitting around the fire watching the sunset—that stay with us long after the journey has finished.

  • Bespoke journeys
